This concern for people lies at the heart of the work carried out by the CHRISTEN HELFEN Foundation. We are committed to helping them develop new prospects when they find themselves in difficult life situations.
Support and help
In particular, we support people who are taking steps to find ways out of excessive debt, social exclusion and mental health issues. Our target group consists of people in our modern society – primarily in the urban areas of the Rhine-Main region.
Helping people to help themselves encompasses both support and assistance. We support people, in particular, through holistic advice and guidance. However, helping people to help themselves also means providing direct and practical assistance in various situations – where people in acute emergencies or crises are unable to help themselves in the short term.

Through its various areas of work, the CHRISTEN HELFEN Foundation has created an integrated social and diaconal network:
- Comprehensive, not-for-profit debt advice – Finding Hope
- Psychosocial counselling for people facing life crises – Finding Your Way
- Volunteer support with matters involving public authorities and government departments – Public Sector Guides
- Clothing and household items for people in need – Secundo
- Neighbourhood-based projects for people with multiple social needs – Needs for Nied
In addition, as part of our statutory purpose, we also support support services provided by charitable project partners with similar objectives.

Responses
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to you regarding a situation that I find extremely challenging, and I would like to ask for your support. Up until now, I have always managed to find solutions to the challenges I have faced, but at present I am hoping for your help in coming up with ideas on how to secure financial resources.
The car I currently drive is essential for my day-to-day life, as I live in a rural area and have a physical disability. During my vocational rehabilitation, which I began in November 2012 and successfully completed, I was able to secure a loan to purchase a second-hand car with the support of the Frankfurt am Main Social Court. My aim is to re-enter the open labour market. I have been driving this car since 2017. I also need the car for journeys to the doctor and for therapy sessions.
Unfortunately, the car is no longer roadworthy and therefore in urgent need of repair: the right-hand rear axle has been faulty for about half a year, and other parts in need of repair must be replaced in order to pass the TÜV inspection at the end of January 2025. As I am currently unemployed, I do not receive any support from the Municipal Employment Centre (KCA). Only once I take up employment.
Despite these hurdles, I remain committed to re-entering the primary labour market. Following my time as a media consultant at Informations- und Verlagsgesellschaft mbH, Unterhaching (Offenbach am Main branch), which came to an end on 30 April 2023 due to the closure of the branch, I have, since May 2023, submitted numerous job applications, undertaken several coaching programmes and completed an internship. Unfortunately, I have not yet secured a permanent position. My efforts to undertake further training as an educational adviser, which could have improved my prospects, were also rejected by the KCA, even though I was able to provide the relevant recommendations. A legal case is currently pending at the Social Court in Frankfurt am Main.
I am also worried about the health of my 13-year-old tomcat, who has been a loyal companion for the past 9 years. He was recently diagnosed with early-stage kidney failure. I have not yet been able to pay the €220 cost of the blood test, and the necessary switch to specialised food also far exceeds my budget. I am therefore asking for your support or for information on who might be able to help me.
Thank you very much for your time. I would like to thank you in advance for your support.
Kind regards
Wenka Radev
