Is it worth training staff in marketing?

🔵 Firstly, there’s the time factor: how long does it actually take for your own staff to be able to write decent LinkedIn posts?

At first, you think, ‘Sure, we can sort this out in-house; someone’s bound to be able to post something.’ Especially with the help of ChatGPT.

🔵 But how is that supposed to work if the managing director and the staff aren’t LinkedIn experts themselves? Knowledge comes from practical experience.

They don’t know what the algorithm looks for. Even if they familiarise themselves with it, things change again every few months.

🔵 What is often overlooked: You can’t spot your own blind spots. It helps if someone else takes an outside view.

🔵 And: Marketing doesn’t have to appeal to the directors and staff. It has to appeal to the customers. You’d be surprised which campaigns strike a chord with potential customers – even ones you wouldn’t have liked yourself.

🔵 Then there’s the problem that, whilst you can see metrics such as likes and impressions, these need to be interpreted correctly.

A high number of ‘likes’ does not necessarily mean that the goal of increasing turnover will be achieved. In some cases, a large number of viral posts can actually lead to lower turnover if they target the wrong audience.

Either you have professionals on your team who already have years of practical experience in marketing. Great. Or you look for external professionals. Anything in between will cost you a great deal of time – and therefore money.

Have you ever trained staff from scratch in a particular subject? How quickly did that go for you?
